小松原はこれまで、自身の身体感覚や日常的に身を置く空間・環境から立ち現れる影響を起点に作品を制作してきました。生活の中で蓄積される時間や経験は、彼の表現を形づくる重要な要素となっています。

本展は、作家が普段の生活圏を離れ、artcenter NAZUKARI WAREHOUSEで滞在制作を行うことで、異なる環境の中で生活し、身体を通して場所と関係を結び直していくプロセスは、これまでの制作にどのような変化をもたらすのか。本展では、その実験的な試みの過程と成果を紹介します。

タイトルにある「ぐらし」とは、単なる滞在ではなく、場所と関わりながら日々を営むことを意味しています。見知らぬ土地で過ごす時間そのものが制作のプロセスとなり、環境の差異によって揺らぐ感覚や新たに立ち上がる関係性が作品として現れていきます。

名都借での生活と制作が交差することで生まれる、新たな表現のかたちをご覧ください。

展覧会概要；

これまで私は、内にあるイメージを脈絡なくつなぎ合わせることで、物語性やメッセージ性を排した、言葉によって説明されないイメージを描いてきました。近年は、自身を取り巻く空間や環境に身を委ねることを意識して制作しています。それにより自己の輪郭はより曖昧になり、これまで抑制的に扱ってきた描きや制作方法に広がりや新たなアプローチを取り入れることができました。本展では滞在制作を通じ、環境の違いが制作の仕組みにどのような変化をもたらすのかを探ります。

Nazukari-gurashi / A Life in Nazukari

Satoshi Komatsubara

artcenter NAZUKARI WAREHOUSE is pleased to present Nazukari-gurashi, a residency-based exhibition by Satoshi Komatsubara.

Komatsubara has developed his practice by focusing on the influences that arise from his bodily sensations and the spaces and environments that surround his everyday life. The time and experiences accumulated through daily living constitute essential elements that shape his expression.

For this exhibition, the artist departs from his usual living environment and undertakes a period of residency at artcenter NAZUKARI WAREHOUSE. How does living and working within a different environment transform his process and expression? Through this experimental attempt, the exhibition presents both the process and the outcome of this inquiry.

The word gurashi in the title does not simply mean a temporary stay; it refers to the act of living while forming relationships with a place. The time spent in an unfamiliar land becomes itself a part of the artistic process, and the fluctuations in perception and the newly emerging connections brought about by the difference in environment materialize as works.

We invite you to experience the new forms of expression that emerge through the intersection of living and making in Nazukari.

Exhibition Statement (Artist’s Text)

Until now, I have created images that resist verbal explanation by fragmentarily connecting internal visions, eliminating narrative and explicit messages.In recent years, I have become increasingly conscious of entrusting myself to the spaces and environments that surround me. Through this process, the boundaries of the self have grown more ambiguous, allowing for an expansion of my previously restrained approaches to painting and production, and the incorporation of new methods.Through this residency, I explore how differences in environment can alter the very structure of my making.
